OCSOBER – the month that tests our sobriety – the alcoholiday of the year

Not sure how it happened but October has somehow become a month to test our sobriety – a gearing up for the holiday months to come and the festivities of Christmas and New Year possibly? There are tons of delicious non-alcoholic drinks to get you through just such a month but at the same time, we would caution you that 23 October is officially Champagne Day at Norman Goodfellows and we are offering great specials on all your favourite French labels. In fact, we have extended these great prices for the entire month of October so stock up on Moët & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot, GH Mumm and Laurent Perrier amongst others. If COVID has left your wallet empty, then look to some of our fabulous local MCCs. South African bubbles punch way above their weight. What better way to sneak a cheat during a month on the wagon than a plate of creamy scrambled eggs washed down with a well-chilled Graham Beck demi-sec on a perfect Sunday morning? (demi-sec really does pair well with scrambled eggs!)

We have a string of promotions during the course of the month. If it’s wine you love, then there’s the tried and trusted Zonnebloem, both red and white on offer at unbelievable prices. Perhaps go slightly retro and try the KWV Cathedral Cellars range that is also on promotion: Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon or Triptych Red Blend to rake up ghosts of good times past.

Angostura is a nifty tool that should be allowed shelf space in every bar – intense alcohol infused with the exotic spices of Trinidad and Tobago – this delicious little additive transforms a wallflower into a temptress in seconds.

This week we tasted the new range of La Brune wines from Nico Grobler (ex Eikendal). He brought along his Valley Sauvignon Blanc, Rosé and Chardonnay as well as the La Brune Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. With summer on the horizon, you should keep your eyes peeled for the Valley Sauvignon Blanc which presents as a rounder, richer Sauvignon Blanc – a welcome change from some of the astringent, green and way too acidic wines we have come to accept as SA Sauvignon.

This month sees the release of the much awaited 2018 Vilafonte C. This wine is surely one of the brightest jewels in the South African crown. We will host a small but exclusive launch for those customers who have offered such amazing support to this lovely wine, towards the end of the month. It will be available on our shelves after 22 October in limited quantities. What a great way to jump off the wagon if you have been observing Octsober all month. You deserve that spoil!

Pop into any of our stores countrywide to take advantage of the specials mentioned herein. Alternately, shop online or call your nearest Norman Goodfellows store to place orders for delivery.

Happy sipping!
