Mansas African whisky 750ml

Inspired by MANSA MUSA, the ninth Mansa (emperor) of the Mali Empire, suggested he was the wealthiest person in history. Mansas whisky is a distinctly African whisky challenging the status-quo and putting Africa on the new world whisky map. The tasting profile is non-traditional, with an organic and earthy palette, balanced with the freshness of African maize and a subtle sweetness synonymous with bourbon. We work closely together with small farmers and ensure best practices. Our grain bill defines the best of Africa, yellow maize, sorghum, rye and barley. After mixing the grains into mash tun and after fermentable sugars are released, the wort is separated from the grain and pumped into fermentable tanks. We add our in-house African strain yeast developed from continuous fermentation. After 6-8 days, the fermented wort is pumped into our stripping still before being sent to copper pot stills where re distillation takes place, the hearths are taken, and diluted to barrel strength. We use a mix of locally sourced ex red wine barrels that are reconditioned and heavily charred. The barrels are left in controlled storage for 3-5 years. KwaZulu-Natal is blessed with the yearlong sun and tropical climate, our secret weapon, meaning our barrels are continually working.
