It is not known when the first wine labelled as a rosé wine was produced, but it is very likely that many of the earliest reds were closer in appearance to today's rosé wines than they would be to modern red wines.
Rosé wine’s pink colour can range from a pale "onionskin" orange to a vivid near-purple, depending on the grape varieties used. Rosé wine is typically the name given to it in French, Portuguese, and English-speaking countries, whereas in Spain it is called a rosado and in Italy a rosato.
How Rosé Wine Is Distilled
Rosé wine can be made still, semi-sparkling or sparkling and with a wide range of sweetness levels from highly dry Provençal rosé to sweet White Zinfandels and blushes. Made from a variety of grapes, Rosé wines can be found worldwide.
