The History Of La Motte Wine
French Huguenot, Pierre Joubert, was La Motte’s first French owner in 1709. It wasn’t until 1752 that Joubert began to plant and harvest grapes on the land which would eventually become the start of La Motte wines. La Motte was acquired by South African industrialist, Anton Rupert in 1970, and is today still owned by the Rupert family today. La Motte is one of three wine estates in Franshoek owned by the family.
