The Kleine Zalze Sauvignon Blanc with Big Taste
Kleine Zalze is just 3 km outside Stellenbosch and forms part of the De Zalze Wineland and Golf Estate. Nicolaas Cleef came from a small town near Leipzig in Eastern Germany, called Salse. Zalze is the Dutch corruption of this town’s name, given to the estate by Cleef. The farm was historically two properties, Groote Zalze (Big Zalze) and Kleine Zalze (small Zalze), and over the years and depending on the owners of the estate, were either joined together, or separates entities. The Basson’s purchase of the two farms has reformed the old farm, more or less along the same lines of the historical property.
Kleine Zalze wines are marked by classical structure and complexity matched by a vibrant flavour intensity. Discernibly South African in style, they are refreshing, beautifully balanced and well suited to food. They are made according to traditional methods, with minimal cellar intervention but supported by modern equipment.
The intensity of the ‘New World’ in its full fruit flavours, combine with the elegance and structure of the ‘Old World’, yielding wines of character, complexity, and balance, reflecting our given terroir and climate. This refined approach to viticulture and winemaking, together with the attention to detail and the personal touch that goes with being a family-owned estate, contribute to the ongoing success of Kleine Zalze’s wines.
The Kleine Zalze Sauvignon Blanc wine is a full bodied, rich style Sauvignon Blanc which shows a good balance of the characteristics of the two regions which each contributes to this full flavoured wine.
Tasting notes: displays a ripe pear, fig and full floral herbaceous flavours on the nose and intense complex lime, ripe asparagus and peppery notes on the palate.
