There’s just something so extraordinary about a dessert which is tempered with all the complexities of your favourite alcohol. Whether it’s warm and sickly, cool and soothing, we’ve found the all-time best alcohol based desserts you for you. Nothing will hit the spot like these alcohol based desserts!

Chocolate Truffles

This is by far our favourite recipe simply because it is so versatile. You can adapt the recipe to suit your mood by simply changing the cream liqueur and it still turns out well every time.

  • 315g dark chocolate
  • 1/2 cup of double cream
  • 1/3 cup of Antonella Tiramisu Cream Liqueur (can be substituted with another cream liqueur of your choice)
  • 1/3 cup of unsweetened cocoa powder

Put the double cream and chopped chocolate in a heat-proof bowl over gently simmering water. Allow the mixture to heat up for about 3 minutes, then the whisk the cream and the chocolate together until they are completely mixed. Ensure the mixture doesn’t get too hot; this will cause the chocolate to burn.

Remove the mixture from the heat, allowing it to cool for 20 to 30 minutes. Gently stir in the Antonella Tiramisu Cream Liqueur and pour the mixture into a baking dish. Cover the surface of the mixture with cling wrap and then allow it to refrigerate for 3 hours.

Scoop out chocolate balls using a melon baller and finish them off with your hands. Place the finished truffles on wax paper and dust them with cocoa powder. Yum!

Gin and Tonic Ice Lollies

Ideal for a hot summer day, this one could even pass as a super chilled drink. They’re delicious and simple to make, the only downside is that because of the gin, they melt more quickly than the alcohol-free version.

  • 1/2 cup cucumber slices
  • 3 tablespoons of gin
  • 3 cups tonic
  • juice of lime
  • 1/4 of a lime

Mix the tonic, gin and lime juice together. Place cucumber slices into ice lolly (popsicle) moulds, then pour in the tonic mix. Allow your lollies to freeze overnight before serving them on a hot, hot day.

Bourbon Chocolate Bread Pudding

The best comfort food ever, bread pudding is just that much tastier with a dash of bourbon!

  • 2 cups of full cream milk
  • 4 eggs
  • 1/3 cup of bourbon
  • 1/2 cup of treacle sugar
  • 230g of 70% dark chocolate
  • 4 cups day-old kitika bread cubes

Start by preheating you oven to 175˚. Whisk the milk, eggs and bourbon together in a large bowl. Toss in the bread cubes, chopped chocolate and sugar. Make sure the bread is coated and allow the bread to absorb the liquid for about 45 minutes. Put the mixture into a baking dish and allow it to bake for 40 minutes or until the custard has set and the top of the dessert is slightly crispy. Lastly, serve it while it’s still warm!

Margarita Ice Cream

This Nigella recipe is known for not requiring any churning! It’s so easy to make, and even easier to overindulge in.

Combine the lime juice, tequila, Cointreau (or triple sec) with sugar, stir the mixture until the sugar has completely dissolved. Add the cream and whip the mixture until it is thick but not stiff. Transfer the mixture into an airtight container and freeze it overnight.

If your mouth isn’t watering now, you might need to see a doctor! Be sure to experiment with the ingredients and get creative. Have fun making the best alcohol based desserts.
