Make Your Own Cocktails at Home

Treat yourself and your friends to a delicious cocktail made in your home

There is no better treat than a delicious cocktail. The only downside is that they can be quite pricey if you’re drinking them at a Cocktail Bar. And because they taste so good, it’s hard to stop at just one.

But did you know… you don’t have to be a connoisseur at cocktail making to create delicious cocktails? You could make them yourself at home for a fraction of the price! And then you could make as many as you want and experiment with loads of different flavours and combinations. Plus, just imagine how impressed your friends and family will be. Once you’re a pro, you could even run a little cocktail workshop at your house for your friends – just imagine what a hit that would be!

Norman Goodfellows has put together a few little tips to help get you started on the cocktail-making venture. With the right ingredients, you can’t really go wrong…

First things first, get the right kit!

You can make your cocktails just by mixing the drinks in a glass or large bowl, but we would definitely recommend getting a proper cocktail shaker, preferable a stainless steel one. This will last forever, and it will keep the drinks chilled … plus it will make the whole process much easier and you can do more with it.

To get you started on your cocktail-making venture, here are a few easy recipes with simple guides on how to make them yourself. All of the cocktails mentioned below taste EVEN BETTER if they are mixed with crushed ice (instead of normal blocks of ice).

Pina Colada

This is a sip of holiday in a glass! If you haven’t tried one before, then you’re in for a tropical treat. If you have, then you’ll go straight down memory lane to sunsets on the beach.

  • 50ml white rum,
  • 25ml coconut cream
  • 25ml single cream
  • 200ml pineapple juice

Method: All you have to do is mix the ingredients together in a glass (or your shaker, preferably). If you want to cheat, swap the first three ingredients for Malibu!

Mojito’s originally came from Mexico. They are absolutely delicious and one of our favourites.

  • Half a lime (cut into 4 pieces)
  • 5 fresh mint leaves (crushed)
  • 1 tablespoon of sugar
  • 50ml golden rum (Morgan’s spiced or Havana Club)
  • Soda water
  • And some strawberries or granadilla if you feel like adding a twist to the original.

Method: Put the lime, mint leaves and sugar into a glass (or your shaker, preferably) and mash them together with any utensil you can find. Then add and stir the rum in and top up with soda water. For some extra taste burst add a small handful of strawberry’s or raspberry’s at the start, yum!

Long Island Iced Tea

This is definitely one of the most popular cocktails out there and one of the main reasons is because it is the most potent cocktail, in terms of alcohol content. So be careful – 1 or 2 could get you quite tipsy.

  • 25ml light rum
  • 25ml vodka
  • 25ml gin
  • 25ml tequila
  • 50ml lime juice
  • Coke-a-cola

Method:  Literally chuck all the alcoholic ingredients and the lime together into the cocktail shaker and give it a proper mix around. Pour in a glass over crushed ice and top up with coke.

We hope this gets you started on your new venture. There are so many delicious recipes out there. So when you ready to experiment more, take a look online and you’ll find a ton more recipes to keep you busy.
