Notes from Carrie’s desk

I was fortunate enough to spend last Monday and Tuesday down in the Cape at the beautifully renovated Alphen Boutique Hotel where I chaired the tasting panel for the 2017 Diners Club Winemaker of the year award.   The categories this year were :  “Pinotage” for the Main Diners Club Winemaker award and  “any White” for the Young Winemaker of the Year award.

There were some cracking wines in both categories and I very much look forward to the result which we will have some inside track on towards the beginning of November.  The wines are all tasted blind so at this stage – I cannot even give you a sneak inkling of who the winners may be.

The Norman Goodfellows Christmas brochure breaks in the next couple of days  and is jam-packed with amazing deals that are really not to be missed.  You will receive a copy in Business Day  or simply come in to visit any of our stores to make sure you cash in on really great prices.  Whilst getting prep done for the catalogue I looked at our 2011 Catalogue and I have to say that some of the whisky and champagne prices have hardly changed in 6 years so really good deals to look forward to.

Its also Winex in two weeks time and so I should be directing you to the Winex website www.Winex.co.za.  You can get early bird discounts on tickets to the biggest Wine Show in the country.  Norman Goodfellows is there every night and  we are at your disposal if you would like a Goodfellow to whisk you around the exhibitors to assist you in  selecting wines for the upcoming festive season.

Happy Sipping!
