Sutherland Estate Wines
Sutherland Estate is a family-owned, boutique winery which comprises of 110 acres of mostly undisturbed native bushland. The cellar is built on Daniels Hill on the northern side of the property and consists of four small separate vineyard blocks.
The original D block was planted over 10 years ago to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. There have been further plantings of the four varieties as well as two parcels of Tempranillo and Gewurztraminer.
The Yarra Valley has the bulk of its annual rainfall in winter and spring which means it is necessary for all blocks to have dripper lines; irrigation is provided during summer and the water requirements come from a number of dams around the property.
The Sutherland Wine Guest House is set in the heart of the Rawsonville Winelands approximately 45 minutes outside of Cape Town. It offers the most breathtaking views of the mountains and vineyards.
Outdoor activities include scenic cycling routes, picturesque drives through Du Toitskloof, Slanghoek Valley and Louwshoek. There are also excellent hiking and horse trails, 4x4 routes and bird watching spots. Fishing enthusiasts will delight in the clear mountain streams and dams where you can hook yourself a Trout, Black Bass or Carp.
For the more adventurous there is white-water rafting or canoeing, fynbos exploration, mountaineering and quadbiking
Rawsonville lies in a prime spot for exploring surrounding vineyards, with 24 wine and cellars within a radius of 15km and as part of the popular Route 62.
For this reason the area is ideal for wine-tasting as you don?t spend too much time in your car traveling from one cellar to another.
