Southern Right Wines
Southern Right Wine Farm was founded by Anthony Hamilton Russell in 1994. He believed that there was a niche in the wine market for world class Pinotage with a distinct flavor of South Africa. Near Hermanus he found an area that would provide an extended ripening period and so the Southern Right?s journey had begun.
History of Southern Right
In partnership with Kevin Grant, the Anthony Hamilton Russell team set about test several clay rich plots of land. They were searching for a sight whereby Southern Right would be able to produce the complex wines they loved.
The first Southern Right Pinotage and Sauvignon blanc vintages were released in 1995. It was only in 1998 that a 113 hectare farm in the scenic Hemel en Aarde Valley, Hermanus, was labeled the home of Southern Right.
Recent Southern Right activities
Southern Right wine farm is extremely environmentally aware. Naming their brand after the rare Southern Right whales that frequent the Atlantic Ocean at their door step, Southern Right contributes a portion to the conservation of these beautiful creatures for every bottle sold. With the Southern Right Cellars completion in time for 2009 harvest, Southern Right?s finishing touches to its estates are underway.
Southern Right also has 54 hectares of olive trees as well as 200 hectares of the world famous Cape Mountain Fynbos. All which forms part of their private reserve.
