Saronsberg Wine Farm
Located in the naturally beautiful surroundings of the Tulbagh Valley, an area known for it?s bright new wine growing future, Saronsberg Wines is a relatively new wine growing establishment but they are already making waves. Through using the area unique terroir Saronsberg Wines have managed to in a few short years produce award wines that are celebrated on an international level.
Saronsberg Wines History
Saronsberg Wines was originally two separate farms. In the 1950 the Krone brothers split their land into plots names Waveren and Welgegund. When the land was bought in 2002 with the idea of producing quality wines unique to the area the two plots were rejoined and named after the ountain on which several vineyards sit, Saronsberg.
The two different areas of Saronsberg Wines had different terroirs and produced grapes of contrasting characteristics, thus providing the opportunity for producing exception blends of quality wine. The immediate construction of a cellar on the property was not part of the intial plan but the owners son found their hand forced.
A raging wild fire that swept through the area two month after the farm had been bought prompted acceleration in the construction plans. Luckily though the farm?s best vineyards had managed to escape the blaze and were part of the assertive planting program that took place in 2003. The Saronsberg?s first wine production was overseen by the experienced Dewaldt Heyns, and in January 2004 Saronsberg harvested its first Sauvignon Blanc grapes.
