Ridgeback Wine Farm
Surrounded by the imposing Paarl Mountains, Ridgeback Wines can be found in Noord Agter Paarl. This magnificent farm stretches across an area of no less than 65 ha, and a lot of effort has been put into keeping the rich tradition and legacy of the landscape, by retaining and maintaining the indigenous fynbos and Proteas that grown prolifically in and around the farm.
The Rhodesian Ridgeback, originally from Rhodesia as it was then called, is believed to have evolved from fine hunting dogs of the native roaming tribes. The Ridgeback's pedigree, temperament and build are reflected in the smooth and satiny red wines which will continue to mature if cautiously cellared for up to 10 years.
These stunning vineyards boast being some of the best amongst those of the Cape and a concerted effort has been made to increase the quality of the grape.
Activities
The winery is where the wine tasting takes place and overlooks a small dam, which has a profusion of water fowl; the wild fowl merge into the scenery and creates a soothing ambience.
There is a splendid restaurant on the estate called The Deck Restaurant which is open six days a week and is located in the wine tasting centre; much fine food is consumed by satisfied customers at this fine establishment.
If you are looking for somewhere to stay after tasting much fine wine, the Ridgeback Guest House is available and is a family run business offering warm hospitality by hostess Vanessa Cole.
