Raka Wine Farm
“Born of the sea, guided by the stars and blessed by the earth’ is what Raka Wines stands for.
Raka is named after owner Piet Dreyer's black painted squid boat and is taken from a poem by NP van Wyk Louw.
Raka Wine is a family business which was bought by the Dreyer family in 1982. The farm, Remhoogte, was planted with 10 hectares of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz with more varieties being added each and every year. The farm now has 68 ha under vine which includes Pinotage, Sangiovese, Viognier, Mourvedre, Petit Verdot, and there are far larger plantings of Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Sauvignon Blanc, which makes the farm quite independent in order to make their wonderful blends.
This beautiful farm is situated near the Kleinrivier Mountain Range, nestled in a valley which is overshadowed by these majestic mountains which are the southern-most ranges in Africa.
Activities at Raka Wines:
It is with passion and enthusiasm that the Dreyer family pursues the fine art of making fine wines and outstanding blends. With the rich blessing of the cool ocean breezes, fertile soil and perfect location plus a dedicated team of workers and the added expertise of professional wine maker Josef Dreyer, the results are win-win all round. There are distinct advantages of a modern gravity flow cellar where Piet Dreyer produces his award-winning excellent wines and blends.
If you are interested in wine tastings at Remhoogte, the opening hours are from Monday to Friday from 9 to 6 and on Saturdays wine tastings take place from 10 until 3 from December to January.
If out of season, bookings ahead are essential.
