Overgaauw Wine Estate
The Overgraauw Wine Estate is 70 hecatre, fourth generation owned vineyard. Located in the grape nourishing soils of Stellenbosch Kloof it is the home of truly exceptional wines that have stood the test of time.
History of the Overgaauw Wine Estate
The Overgaauw Wine Estate was founded by Abraham van Velden in 1905. It was originally part of a farm that had been owned by his ancestors since 1783. The cellars were built in 1909 for the bulk making of wine that was streaks ahead of his time.
In 1945 the Overgaauw Wine Estate was handed down to his son David. David took over the farm and 1949 started the production of traditional Portuguese port. In 1973 David passed on the Overgaauw Wine Estate heritage to his son Braam, who is now the current owner.
Braam expanded on Overgaauw Wine Estates? arsenal of wines with focusing on the development of a Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cinsaut blend. In 1982 Overgaauw Wine Estates once again shifted their attention on creating a more Bordeaux ensemble by replacing the Cinsaut with Cabernet Franc.
Current Events
David is a widely recognized and respected face in the wine industry. He makes regular appearances at a multitude of wine festivals and conferences. This year the Overgaauw Wine Estate is hosting a carols by candle light evening whereby you can spend the evening in the soft light of candles surround by the beauty of the vineyards.
