Org de Rac Wine Estate
When you cross the Berg River towards Picketberg - it's hard not to notice Org de Rac Organic Wine Estate with its vineyards growing on the hillside in good clean country air. Org de Rac is much more than an organic wine estate because amongst the vines are lavender, rosemary and olives and what a sight that is for sore eyes.
Org de Rac Domain is an organic wine estate in the heart of the Swartland about an hour?s drive from Cape Town. It has 261-hectars overlooking vineyards and a game park. It is run to strict standards and every aspect of the production - from planting and harvesting to bottling and labeling, reflects the estate?s commitment to harmony with nature.
Grapes are grown in previously untouched, healthy soil, carefully nurtured with natural compost and organic nutrients. Mildew disease is taken care of by the prevailing wind direction to allow natural drying of the leaves. Cover crops are planted between rows and provide organic nutrition and earthworms enrich the soil. Environmentally friendly pest-control methods include a small army of ducks that patrols the vineyards, ridding the vines of snails and insects.
Only half the sulphur content of conventional wine is allowed and no other chemical additives are used at all. These then are the wines coming from Org de Rac Organic Wine Estate:
A long flavourful, fruity wine with delicious hints of cassia and black current on both palate and nose. The wine has lots of ripe tannins to support the structure and has a well-balanced gorgeous oak finish.
A ripe, dark brooding wine with a rare classic Rhone style nose. Often described as powerful and intense, the wine has an interesting spicy nose with an elegant hint of plums and coffee on the palate. It also reflects typical Shiraz characteristics of meat and mushrooms and has a great oak finish.
Dark and intense colour with strong mint and berry flavours on the nose. Well-balanced palate combining wood and fruit flavours.
A crisp aromatic Rosé with an explosion of red berry fruit on the nose and more strawberry and pomegranate fruit on the palate and is refreshingly light in colour.
