Mulderbosch Wine Estate
Mulderbosch (situated in the prime Koelenhof area of Stellenbosch) (Stellenbosch Hills) is widely accepted as being one of the best white wine producers in the country and Mike Dobrovic (better known as Mr Sauvignon Blanc South Africa) is one of the most talented wine makers in South Africa. The Estate was terribly neglected and unfarmed, containing just a few dilapidated buildings.
However, its rich soil had lain fallow for almost a century. In 1989, Winemaker Larry Jacobs and Mike Dobrovic cleaned up the property and planted the first vineyards as well as erecting a cellar. They set about creating a Sauvignon Blanc, a Blanc Fumé and a Chardonnay. In 1996 Larry sold the farm to a major Pretoria based group called Hydro Holdings.
Early in 2010 Mulderbosch moved from a cottage industry to an unqualified successful winery with global demand. Annalie van Dyk and Alexandra McFarlane currently serve as assistant winemakers at Mulderbosch. Terroir Capital, a California-based investment group recently purchased Mulderbosch Vineyards and the Mulderbosch production team will remain in place under the new ownership. The sloping hills and valleys of the farm are now planted with 25 hectares of neatly trellised vineyards.
Harmony is central to the philosophy of Mulderbosch, where cellarmaster (Adam Mason) continues to put his unique stamp upon the quality and character of the wines which Mulderbosch produce. Range of wines:
