South African Merlot Wines

South African wines are renowned as having some of the finest Merlot wines in the world.

Saxenberg Private Collection:
Saxon Private Collection Merlot is the creation of winemakers Nico van der Merwe and Marius Prins. This Merlot brings to mind mulberries and chocolate all in one glass and has been matured in oak for a year. A most distinguished and sophisticated structured Merlot which boasts of layers of loaded and flexible berry fruit flavours. There are distinct hints of mocha and chocolate complemented by fine tannins. Saxenberg Private Collection Merlot 2005 is wonderful paired with meat dishes.It is recommended to decant this fine Merlot at least one hour in advance.

Ernie Els:
Ernie Els Merlot 2009 is sourced from selected vineyards in the region of Stellenbosch, ensuring that an excellent flavour is captured.

Spier:
Spier Merlot 750ml is a velvety smooth wine which has a rich plum and red berry aroma, and  delectable caramel flavour. There are distinct hints of smoky tobacco as well, with berry flavours lingering long after the last sip. Winemakers Frans Smit and Johan Erasmus are the winemakers responsible for this wonderful Merlot. Spier Private Collection Merlot has a deep, dark ruby colour  with distinct strawberry aromas and a caramel undertone. This rich, lingering, fruity Merlot is the brainchild of winemakers Frans Smit and Johan Jordaan. The end result is a lingering structure and elegance left on the palate.

Thelema:
Thelema Stellenbosch Merlot 750ml is 100% Merlot. The taste is predominantly red fruit combined with smoky flavours. This juicy Merlot has firm tannins and is altogether a fabulous wine that has fine balance.

Hartenberg:
Hartenberg Merlot 750ml is 100% Merlot and was created by winemaker Carl Schultz. This is a sophisticated and silky wine that goes with many different types of cuisine. The flavours linger long after the plates have been cleared away and the flavours hint of roasted spices, prosciutto and plums. This wine is excellent when paired with dishes of game, lamb and beef.
