Lynx Wine Farm
The Lynx Estate lies on the Wemmershoek River at the foothills of the Klein Drakenstein Mountains. The valley enjoys cool winters and hot summers which are moderated by the river. Since 1997, the team has been led by Owners Winemaker Dieter and Diana Sellmeyer, Assistant Winemaker Helgard van Schalkwyk and Farm Manager Theunis Brandt. The name Lynx came about when they were looking for a name for their new label. The workers reported that they had finally seen the lynx that occasionally visits the farm.
Lynx Wines is the smallest Wine Estate in the Valley producing less that 2500 cases per annum. There were only 500 cases of the maiden vintage produced in 2003. The farm produces nearly 90 tons of grapes - of which 5% are selected for their own vinification. They plan is to remain small in order to focus on producing memorable wines. At Lynx all wines are grown, produced and bottled on the Estate. In 2003 the maiden Shiraz vintage won acclaim when it achieved 4˝ stars in the John Platter?s Guide. These are their wines
