Durbanville Hills? History
The first farms that Durbanville Hills draws its great grape yields from were first established in the 18th century. The area had long been a resting place for travelers with their foods stuffs, cattle and dreams of a new life. People were drawn to the vitality of the area with its spring and potential.
The hills that border their farms were originally called Gevlekte Luipaartsberg (Spotted Leopard Mountain) due to the vegetation that speckled the hills like the big cats fur. Its name however was changed later to Tygerberg.
They have two additional wine ranges Their Rhinofields range is named after the Renosterveld. It is so named after the protected indigenous plants that grow in the area and the rhinoceroses that were often encountered in this vegetation. The other range is their Single Vineyard Range from which Durbanville Hills limited release wine are made.
