Brampton Wine Estate
Brampton Wines historic estate in Stellenbosch has been owned by the Barlow family for over 60 years. It is sheltered by the Simonsberg and has a wine growing history dating back to 1682. Wine has been bottled at this cellar since 1892. Brampton's name pays tribute to the champion Jersey bull Brampton Beacon Bloomer, who was imported from Canada by Peter and Pam Barlow to add to their Jersey herd.
Brampton Wines Past
Peter and Pamela Barlow bought Rustenburg in 1941 which was then a neglected farm and homestead. They combined the Brampton homestead with Schoongezicht and uprooted some of the vines which were replaced with fruit trees for the export market.
Simon, son of Peter and Pamela Barlow and the force behind the 21st century renewal regards himself as a caretaker with the responsibility to leave Rustenberg in a better place than he found it. Rustenberg has distanced itself from the fervour for fruity wines and concentrates instead on simplicity.
Brampton wines are all tank-fermented, with the reds going directly to small oak barrels after primary fermentation. Malolactic fermentation takes place in the barrel where the wine will mature for up to 15 months before bottling.

Grapes for the Brampton wines are selected from the Rustenberg estate vineyards on the Simonsberg as well as from Nooitgedacht which overlooks False Bay.
All of the Brampton wines are fermented in stainless steel. The whites are aged in tank in order to preserve the fresh fruit flavors of the wines. After the initial fermentation is complete, the reds are run to small oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and maturation of up to 15 months before bottling.
Each Brampton Wines label is etched with a "B", playfully scrawled in vivid, varietal-specific colors. The range is packaged with screw cap closures and they are all perfect everyday wines for both great and casual gatherings.
