Bouchard Finlayson Wine Estate
Bouchard Finlayson Wines is located near the southernmost point of Africa ? the Hemel-en-Aarde (Heaven and Earth) valley and is framed by mountains and within sight of the ocean. This idyllic bit the Cape enjoys the type of weather beneficial to growing vines and an added bonus is the perfect clay shale vineyard soils. Bouchard Finlayson is a boutique winery established in 1989 and dedicated to the making of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc wines of outstanding quality.
Just an hour and a half from Cape Town in the wine ward of Walker Bay, the 125-hectare property currently has 19 hectares under vines and the rest is mountain land covered by the indigenous ‘fynbos’ flora of the Western Cape. Farming just a small portion of the farm ensures that the mountain land is conserved.
The surrounding coastal town of Hermanus is famous for the whales that venture into their waters. Shark cage diving is a sport for the brave and courageous but us ordinary mortals can at lease enjoy the most wonderful hiking trails.
