BELLINGHAM WINERY
The Bellingham Winery is synonymous with the finest wines in South Africa and its history is firmly rooted in the winelands of the Cape. The first vines were planted at the Bellingham Winery more than 350 years ago in the virgin soil of the Franschhoek valley. Since then, generations of winemakers have turned the earth, nurtured the vines and produced wines of great character and diversity.
Bellingham Winery has always pioneered new trends but has nevertheless remained true to its call for well-balanced wines which show off the distinctive character of each varietal. The result is exciting and modern. The bottom line is an unpretentious yet sophisticated collection that has won world-class status. Bellingham Wine Estateis a household word in the South African market but is also well known in global markets.
The historical Bellingham Homestead, Groot Drakenstein, is a National Monument at the Bellingham Winery and is only 11 kilometers from Franschoek. The Homestead was built in 1693 and is the ancestral home of Bellingham Wines. Since 1943, it has produced amongst others the Johannisberger, the first Grand Cru, Shiraz and a sparkling Cuvee. The owner, Bernard Podlashuk, was the first South African to receive The Chevalier de Taste de Vin.
