ANTONIJ RUPERT WINES AT L'ORMARINS
Beneath the jagged peaks of the Groot Drakenstein mountains in Franschhoek, Anthonij Rupert Wines at L?Ormarins has searched far and wide across to find what it takes to make the finest wines the world has to offer.
The L'Ormarins range consists of four wines, Sauvignon blanc, Sauvignon blanc reserve, Chardonnay and the Optima. The Anthonij Rupert wines at L'Ormarins are produced from the younger vineyards on the estates but the same viticulture and vineyard practices are used to understand the characteristics of each wine.
There are two attractions on L'Ormarins wine farm. The Franschhoek Motor Museum has over 300 cars in its collection, of which 80 are on display at any given time. Dating from 1811, the Cape Dutch manor house has two state-of-the-art cellars which were launched in 2007 for the Anthonij Rupert wines at L?Ormarins. One is able to chat with the winemakers and hear of the revolutionary farming practices, from transporting the grapes to the cellar in cool trucks to hand-sorting and -stemming.
During the summer high season, visitors have an opportunity to indulge their appetites in the Mediterranean-style delicatessen where you can purchase a variety of breads, cheeses, pates while savouring their award-winning wines.
Vines are grown in terraced vineyards on a variety of slopes and at varying altitudes thus enhancing the conditions that lend a unique character to Antonij Rupert wines at L'Ormarins. Only noble cultivars are produced - Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon - complemented by a classical Claret blend branded as Optima.
